Soft Landing: A Maker Spotlight Series

Soft Landing: A Maker Spotlight Series

By Louissa Barnes

Soft Landing began as a feeling.

It came from wondering what care could look like when it isn’t about perfection. When it isn’t about overperforming or checking boxes. When it simply allows you to pause. To breathe. To land quietly in your own body.

That intention shaped the first curated collection for Versatelle Co.

The Soft Landing Collection is made up of self-care tools that feel slow, grounding, and personal. Each item invites a moment of ritual. Not dramatic. Not staged. Just real. A moment that belongs to you.

As I was building this collection, I was searching for Black and Brown-owned brands based in Canada that aligned with Versatelle’s values of care, culture, and community. I explored the Faire marketplace and found something deeper than product listings. I found makers whose work holds memory, meaning, and a clear sense of purpose.

Here are the five brands included in the collection. Each one brings their own version of softness, ritual, and rooted care:

Aura Body + Home

Founded by mindfulness guide and wellness educator Erica Gittens, Aura Body + Home offers beautifully crafted tools for everyday presence. From her 30-card mindfulness deck to sound baths and reiki, Erica creates work that supports emotional, spiritual, and physical grounding. Her offerings are rooted in rest, gentle reflection, and reconnection, especially for BIPOC communities.

MadebyOmo

Artist and sustainability advocate Omowunmi brings together texture, ritual, and cultural pride in every item she creates. From handmade soaps and body butters to cement crafts and candles, her work is tactile and intentional. Through both her creative practice and her zero-waste shop in Toronto, she creates space for care that is beautiful, eco-conscious, and rooted in community action.

Everbella

After years of navigating her own skin conditions, founder and medical skincare specialist Mekisha Banks built Everbella as a place of healing and transformation. Her skincare line is backed by science and grounded in self-trust. With decades of experience, a strong "no list" of harmful ingredients, and a commitment to holistic wellness, her products offer both nourishment and knowledge.

Haven Bath & Body Co.

Founded by Kunbi and based in Whitby, Haven Bath & Body Co. was created out of a love for nature, beauty, and heritage. The brand is committed to ethical sourcing, women’s empowerment, and giving back. For every item purchased, they provide personal care kits to under-resourced women in Canada, Africa, and Asia. Their products are handmade, high-quality, and created with a deep sense of purpose.

Cup of Té

Created by Taylor Lindsay-Noel, Cup of Té is a loose-leaf tea company rooted in resilience. After a life-altering accident redirected her path, Taylor built a brand that centers warmth, comfort, and excellence. With ethically sourced organic blends and thoughtfully curated teaware, her offerings invite you into the kind of ritual that starts with a kettle and ends with a quiet return to yourself.

Each brand will be featured in an upcoming Maker Spotlight post. I’ll share more about their stories, their products, and the values that shape their work. Some will include Q&As with the founders, offering a more personal window into their process and vision.

This series is a space to slow down and connect. With the makers. With their practices. And with your own rituals of care.

Take your time with each spotlight. Let it be a quiet moment. Let it meet you wherever you are.
